The Hangover: NFL Week 17 Fantasy Recap

Hopefully, you are reading this column coming off your Fantasy Football title! Hopefully, you have enjoyed this column, and it has been beneficial along the way. If you are in ‘Dynasty’ or ‘Keeper’ leagues, the time is now to look at players to ‘Buy’ and to ‘Sell’ this off-season. We take a quick look at each game and provide our sentiments.

FALCONS 29 BILLS 15

BUY: Gabriel Davis, WR Bills- Gabriel Davis deserves additional work in 2022. I don’t imagine that the Bills are bringing back Emmanuel Sanders. Davis has to look for a long-term ‘Robin’ role to Stefon Diggs’ ‘Batman.’

SELL: Cordarrelle Patterson, RB Falcons- There is no way that Cordarrelle Patterson will have a similar role in 2022. The 2021 season feels like an anomaly. If you can acquire a 2nd round rookie pick, I would take it.

BEARS 29 GIANTS 3

BUY: Justin Fields, QB Bears- I have to imagine that the Bears front office bring in a more-imaginative offensive mind to take Fields’ game to the next level.

SELL: Saquon Barkley, RB Giants- Timing is everything in fantasy football. I would not deal Barkley today. The stink of a rough season lingers. Wait until later in the off-season. Teams will become RB hungry and pay for the big name of Saquon Barkley.

BENGALS 34 CHIEFS 31

BUY: Tee Higgins, WR Bengals- As the off-season rolls on, managers may forget Tee Higgins. Higgins was remarkable in the 2nd-half of the season. Higgins may lose some luster next to Ja’Marr Chase. Swoop in and get the value.

SELL: Tyler Boyd, WR Bengals- Tyler Boyd had a couple of big performances down the stretch, but they were on one big play. I would try to deal Boyd now for a piece on an offense that isn’t the 4th option.

TITANS 34 DOLPHINS 3

BUY: A.J. Brown, WR Titans- A.J. Brown will represent one of the better values in fantasy heading into 2022. Brown is a spectacular talent. Fantasy managers will be frustrated by Brown with his early-season struggles.

SELL: Julio Jones, WR Titans- If a fantasy owner will give you anything in the hope of a bounce-back season for Julio Jones, you need to take it immediately.

RAIDERS 23 COLTS 20

BUY: Michael Pittman Jr., WR Colts- I know fantasy managers are frustrated with Michael Pittman Jr. I get it, Pittman Jr. was inconsistent all season long. Don’t forget that Pittman Jr. has only played two seasons and projects to be the Colts’ top pass-catcher next season and beyond.

SELL: Hunter Renfrow, WR Raiders- 2021 was the perfect storm for Hunter Renfrow to accumulate value. The Raiders went through the Henry Ruggs III saga and the Darren Waller injury. Renfrow became the last pass-catcher standing. I imagine Waller returns to the alpha pass-catcher role, and the Raiders add a piece or two.

PATRIOTS 50 JAGUARS 10

BUY: Rhamondre Stevenson, RB Patriots- There is a non-zero chance that Rhamondre Stevenson is the top ball carrier for the Patriots moving forward. Regardless, I expect Stevenson will have a solidified role in the offense.

SELL: Laviska Shenault Jr., WR Jaguars- Laviska Shenault Jr. will live up to the hype. Nor will he live up to the hope we all had for him. There is name value in Shenault in the dynasty community, and I would deal him.

BUCCANEERS 28 JETS 24

BUY: Elijah Moore, WR Jets- Do not forget how good Elijah Moore was during this season. Moore represents a tremendous ‘buy low’ situation.

SELL: Antonio Brown, WR Buccaneers- I would accept just about anything for him as I believe he has played his last down in the NFL.

EAGLES 20 FRANCHISE TEAM 16

BUY: Miles Sanders, RB Eagles- Unless the Eagles make an off-season addition, Sanders remains atop the Eagles backfield. The injuries will lower his value. Sanders is a steal when healthy.

SELL: Jalen Hurts, QB Eagles- I still believe the Eagles have questions about Jalen Hurts as the long-term option. If you can ‘sell high’ on Hurts coming off a remarkable season, that would be a wise move.

RAMS 20 RAVENS 19

BUY: Cam Akers, RB Rams- I would make some inquires to see what the Cam Akers fantasy manager would want. Akers has rebounded from an Achilles’ tear in record time. Darrell Henderson Jr. has been regulated. Sony Michel is nothing special.

SELL: Marquise Brown, WR Ravens- I don’t see ‘Hollywood’ Brown becoming the consistent option week in and week out. I would sell now while you still can.

CHARGERS 34 BRONCOS 13

BUY: Javonte Williams, RB Broncos- There are few players in fantasy football that I would buy more than Javonte Williams. It feels like the arrow on Williams is pointing WAY up. If there is a new coaching staff, he could be the bell cow.

SELL: Mike Williams, WR Chargers- Mike Williams put together a career year, and even 2021 had its valley for Williams. We do not know where Mike Williams will be next season. I would sell him following his career campaign.

49ERS 23 TEXANS 7

BUY: Elijah Mitchell, RB 49ers- Elijah Mitchell is the most talented back in the 49ers backfield. The 49ers know it. Mitchell will be the lead back in this offense in 2022 and will take off.

SELL: Deebo Samuel, WR 49ers- Trading Deebo Samuel coming off the 2021 season sounds ludicrous. Deebo was great! No one is suggesting that he is not. What I will say is that Samuel is due to regression. Deebo was one of the most efficient players in quite some time in 2021. Trade him high for a player with a more consistent role in his offense.

CARDINALS 25 COWBOYS 22

BUY: Tony Pollard, RB Cowboys- Ezekiel Elliott looks washed. The fall off of the cliff is coming, and you do not want to be holding the bag.

SELL: Ezekiel Elliott, RB Cowboys- See above.

SAINTS 18 PANTHERS 10

BUY: D.J. Moore, WR Panthers- What do we know? We know that D.J. Moore is a talented player, the Panthers were sniffing around Matthew Stafford during the last off-season, and the Panthers were interested in Deshaun Watson. Moore can take off if the Panthers land their quarterback upgrade.

SELL: Alvin Kamara, RB Saints- I am a proponent of selling a player a year early rather than a year too late. The Saints quarterback situation hampers Kamara in the post-Drew Brees years.

SEAHAWKS 51 LIONS 29

BUY: D’Andre Swift, RB Lions- Fantasy managers may get frustrated with Detroit’s constipated offense. Swift is a dynamic talent and worth targeting.

SELL: Rashaad Penny, RB Seahawks- Sell Rashaad Penny right now. Sell Penny on the promise that he just showed in a short sample size.

PACKERS 37 VIKINGS 10

BUY: Irv Smith Jr., TE Vikings- Fantasy managers may have forgotten about Irv Smith Jr. Tyler Conklin played well in 2021, but he showed that he is a journeyman. Irv Smith Jr. is still young and has time to develop into a top pass-catcher for Minnesota.

SELL: Aaron Jones, RB Packers- Try to get out while you still can. You may be able to find a fantasy manager willing to pay for the Aaron Jones name value. A.J. Dillon is not going anywhere, and the split moving forward is worrisome for fantasy purposes.

STEELERS 26 BROWNS 14

BUY: Nick Chubb, RB Browns- You may have a small window to ‘buy low’ on Nick Chubb. When healthy, the Browns’ offensive line may be the best in the league. Baker Mayfield was rendered ineffective with his shoulder injury. Nick Chubb can put it all together with a healthy offensive line and competent quarterback play.

SELL: Diontae Johnson, WR Steelers- Will the next quarterback following Big Ben target Diontae Johnson relentlessly? We would see a slide in volume here.
