NHL DFS Tournament Breakdown For DraftKings and FanDuel - 12:10:2021

We had what felt like a bit of a seesaw with huge slates and tiny slates alternating. Now we finally have a mid-sized seven-gamer. This is a sweet spot for NHL DFS, and I like this type of slate. Let’s dig into it!

Top Stacks – Overall

Colorado 1 – DraftKings: $18,900 – FanDuel: $23,400

Nathan MacKinnon – Gabriel Landeskog – Logan O’Connor

Colorado has done something odd and split up one of the best lines in hockey in MacKinnon/Rantanen/Landeskog. Still, this is an elite line, even with O’Connor skating alongside MacKinnon and Landeskog. You can take the savings on the complete line with a cheap O’Connor. Or, you can just two-man MacKinnon/Landeskog or tack on a power-play linemate like Mikko Rantanen, Nazem Kadri, or Cale Makar. This is an excellent home matchup for Colorado against a Detroit team that is among the league leaders in goals against.

Washington 1 – DraftKings: $21,500 – FanDuel: $23,300

Alex Ovechkin – Evgeny Kuznetsov – Tom Wilson

Washington’s top line does get a less-than-ideal matchup against Pittsburgh. Still, if Ovechkin and company are on the ice, good things can happen. They play at home, and we are banking on talent over matchup here.

Vegas 1 – DraftKings: $18,100 – FanDuel: $22,700

Max Pacioretty – Mark Stone – Chandler Stephenson

We’re getting a nice discount on Vegas’s top line here, particularly on DraftKings, and they are right up there with Colorado 1 and Washington 1 on tonight’s slate. A home matchup against a scuffling Philadelphia squad is close to ideal, and a bloodbath is likely to ensue in Sin City tonight. This is my personal top stack of the day. I’d try to pair with Alex Pietrangelo or Shea Theodore at defenseman as well if at all possible.

*UPDATE* Chandler Stephenson is now expected to miss tonight’s game for personal reasons. We’ll have to see how the top line shakes out, but it should be Nicolas Roy taking his place. Even in Stephenson’s absence, VGK1 will be a top stack tonight.

Top Stack – DraftKings Value

Vancouver 2 – $12,200

J.T. Miller – Brock Boeser – Tanner Pearson

This line is exceptionally cheap, fully correlated on the power play 2, and enables you to spend up for your primary stack. You can also tack on one of the top value defensemen on the slate in Tyler Myers, who also skates on PP2. This is not a particularly great matchup against Winnipeg. Still, they play at home and make everything else work on DraftKings.

Top Stack – FanDuel Value

New Jersey 1 – $14,300

Jesper Bratt – Nico Hischier – Pavel Zacha

These guys are just too cheap on FanDuel for a fully correlated power-play one top line. They play at home in a middle-of-the-road matchup against Nashville. You can pair them with one of the top defensemen on any slate in Dougie Hamilton for a full four-man power play stack. Due to the price of the line, it is still affordable despite Hamilton’s steep price.

Top Plays – Defenseman

Ceiling:

Roman Josi – DraftKings: $7,800 – FanDuel: $7,300

Dougie Hamilton – DraftKings: $7,500 – FanDuel: $7,200

Alex Pietrangelo – DraftKings: $6,600 – FanDuel: $6,600

Jakob Chychrun – DraftKings: $6,500 – FanDuel: $5,200

DraftKings Value:

Ryan Graves: $3,800

Tyler Myers: $3,600

Mark Pysyk: $2,700

Logan Stanley: $2,500

FanDuel Value:

Jakob Chychrun: $5,200 (ceiling and value!)

Rasmus Dahlin: $4,700

Mattias Ekholm: $3,900

Tyler Myers: $3,800

Top Plays – Goalie

Darcy Kuemper – DraftKings: $8,500 – FanDuel: $7,900

Sergei Bobrovsky – DraftKings: $8,400 – FanDuel: $8,600

Laurent Brossoit – DraftKings: $8,300 – FanDuel: $8,200

Thatcher Demko – DraftKings: $8,000 – FanDuel: $7,700

Mackenzie Blackwood – FanDuel: $7,100 (FanDuel value)

Tournament Stack Pivots: DraftKings

With a lot of the higher-end stack ownership going to Colorado 1 and Vegas 1, we’re getting substantial leverage on some of the best stacks of the night. These include WAS1, WPG1, FLA1 and 2, COL2, NSH1, and WPG2.

Tournament Stack Pivots: FanDuel

Much of the spend-up ownership goes to COL1 and FLA2 while people look to save with NJ1 and BUF1. VGK1, WPG1, COL2, WAS1, NSH1, WPG2, and PIT1 offer excellent GPP leverage.
