After only one game on Monday night, the NHL returns with a full slate of games. Some games are still being postponed or moved because of the current outbreak but for January 4th, there are eight games scheduled. The handful of games allows bettors to find favorable matchups and mismatches that can hopefully lead to profitable and successful bets with some games standing out in particular.
Over 6 – Calgary Flames Vs. Florida Panthers
Flames stat line | 17 wins in 30 games | 3.20 goals per game | 2.23 goals against per game |
Panthers stat line | 21 wins in 32 games | 3.78 goals per game | 2.91 goals against per game |
The Flames and Panthers are two of the best teams in the NHL and the upcoming game should be a great one as a result. The two teams have great defenses but both offenses look to step up and control this game. The Panthers should find the back of the net throughout the game with Jonathan Huberdeau, Sam Bennett, Anthony Duclair, and the rest of the forward unit crashing the net on the odd-man rush and creating open shots off of great passes in the offensive zone. In addition, the backend of the forward unit, led by Sam Reinhart, should create plenty of open shots in the offensive zone with great passes against the later Flames defensive pairings.
The Flames should also pile on the goals with Johnny Gaudreau, Andrew Mangiapane, Matthew Tkachuk, and the rest of the forward unit creating open shots on the wings and with speed on the rush while also creating open shots off of strong passes in the offensive zone. Moreover, the Flames defenseman Noah Hanifin will help pick apart the Panthers’ defense with open shots from the blue line.
The Over will cover in a high-scoring game controlled by both offenses.
Also Consider: Flames (+120) – The Flames have a complete roster and can easily pull off the upset and provide great odds in the process as road Underdogs.
Under 5.5 – Boston Bruins Vs. New Jersey Devils
Bruins stat line | 16 wins in 28 games | 2.82 goals per game | 2.57 goals against per game |
Devils stat line | 13 wins in 33 games | 2.88 goals per game | 3.39 goals against per game |
The Devils have struggled defensively, making it easy to think that the upcoming game will be a low-scoring one. However, the Bruins have a great defense and both units look to take advantage of two struggling offenses. The Devils should limit the top-heavy Bruins offense with PK Subban, Ryan Graves, and the rest of the defensive unit stepping up and creating turnovers in the defensive zone while limiting shots on the net. Additionally, Devils goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood looks to rebound in the upcoming game and blank the Bruins’ quick shots on the net.
The Bruins meanwhile should eliminate and potentially shut out the Devils offense with Charlie McAvoy, Brandon Carlo, Mike Reilly, and the rest of the defensive unit forcing turnovers in the neutral zone and defensive zone alike while limiting the Devils from finding quick scoring chances on the rush. In Addition, Linus Ullmark is having a great season in the net and looks to cover up the Devils shots on the goal and eliminate second chance shots on the net.
The Under will cover in a low-scoring game controlled by both defenses.
Detroit Red Wings (-110) Vs. San Jose Sharks
Red Wings stat line | 15 wins in 33 games | 2.70 goals per game | 3.39 goals against per game |
Sharks stat line | 17 wins in 33 games | 2.82 goals per game | 3.06 goals against per game |
The Red Wings host the Sharks with both teams looking to make up ground in their respective divisions. The Sharks have shown promise on both ends of the ice but the Red Wings look to find favorable matchups on both ends of the ice. The Red Wings should pile on the goals with Lucas Raymond, Dylan Larkin, and the forward unit creating open shots on the wing while Moritz Seider picks apart the Sharks struggling defense from the point. The Red Wings should also limit the top-heavy Sharks forward unit with Moritz Seider, Marc Staal, and the rest of the defensive unit stepping up and creating turnovers at the blue line and limiting the Sharks from establishing an offensive zone presence while goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic blanks the shots on the net.
The Red Wings will win the game with a dominant performance at home.
Also Consider: Over 6 – Both defenses have struggled this season and the two offenses look to step up and find the back of the net throughout the game.
Over 6 – Colorado Avalanche Vs. Chicago Blackhawks
Avalanche stat line | 18 wins in 28 games | 4.21 goals per game | 3.32 goals against per game |
Blackhawks stat line | 11 wins in 32 games | 2.22 goals per game | 3.38 goals against per game |
The Blackhawks defense has struggled this season but has turned a corner since the start of the season and along with the Avalanche potent offense, both teams look to find the back of the net throughout the game. The Blackhawks should create plenty of scoring chances with Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone and finding quick shots on the net. The Blackhawks will also create plenty of open shots against the Avalanche struggling defense with defenseman Seth Jones making plays from the blue line in the offensive zone.
The Avalanche meanwhile, should pile on the goals and run up the score with Mikko Rantanen, Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon, and the rest of the forward unit crashing the net on the odd-man rush while also creating open shots off of quick passes in the offensive zone. Moreover, the Avalanche defensemen Cale Makar and Devon Toews should pick apart the Blackhawks defense from the point with great shots throughout traffic as well as finding open skaters near the net.
The Over will cover in a high-scoring game with both offenses stepping up.
Philadelphia Flyers (+115) Vs. Anaheim Ducks
Flyers stat line | 13 wins in 32 games | 2.66 goals per game | 3.22 goals against per game |
Ducks stat line | 17 wins in 35 games | 3.00 goals per game | 2.71 goals against per game |
The Flyers are on the west coast and facing a Ducks team that is having a great start to the season. The Ducks are looking to win on their home ice but the Ducks can exploit mismatches throughout the game. The Flyers will limit the Ducks offense with Travis Sanhiem, Ivan Provorov, and the rest of the defensive unit stepping up at the blue line and forcing the Duck forwards to chip the puck into the offensive zone. The Flyers goaltender Carter Hart is also having a strong bounce-back season and looks to blank the Ducks’ quick shots on the net.
The Flyers offense meanwhile should run up the score with Kevin Hayes, Joel Farabee, Cam Atkinson, and the rest of the forward unit creating open shots off of quick passes in the offensive zone while also creating space near the face-off circles. The Flyers will also allow the backend of the forward unit, led by Travis Konecny, to find open shots on the net against the later pairing of the Ducks defense to maintain a scoring presence throughout the game.
The Flyers will win the game and provide great odds in the process as road Underdogs.
Also Consider: Over 5.5 – The Ducks and Flyers have talented forward units that should both step up and find the back of the net throughout the game.
