NBA DFS First Look For DraftKings And FanDuel - 1/7/2022

Happy Friday! After yesterday’s four-game slate, we are back to a sizable nine-game NBA DFS offering today. Here is a game-by-game breakdown to help isolate the best plays for DFS contests today.

SAS (104.5) @ PHI (111.5)

We have some decent DraftKings value for San Antonio with Lonnie Walker IV, Bryn Forbes, Tre Jones, and Keita Bates-Diop. Jakob Poeltl and Dejounte Murray have the most upside but are not great points-per-dollar plays. They are, however, close enough to consider here. The options are essentially the same on FanDuel, although Poeltl is priced better and Forbes is too expensive. Murray is also a worse play on FanDuel.

Seth Curry is the top Sixers value option on DraftKings. We can also look at Tobias Harris, Joel Embiid, and Furkan Korkmaz. The plays are similar on FanDuel, but Joel Embiid really stands out at his FanDuel price.

MIL (112.75) @ BKN (117.75)

The Bucks have a fair number of guys out, including Jrue Holiday, who will miss due to health protocols. Due to this, Jordan Nwora, Bobby Portis, and Javonte Smart are solid value options tonight on DraftKings. Giannis Antetokounmpo is always a tournament play and could be a better choice tonight with Holiday missing. Portis, Smart, and Giannis are the best FanDuel plays.

James Harden and Kevin Durant are both in play for Brooklyn with Kyrie Irving out. Harden is a slightly better choice on both sites because he’s cheaper. I wouldn’t seriously consider anyone else for Brooklyn outside of perhaps Patty Mills on DraftKings.

UTA (105) @ TOR (116.5)

Almost all of the best players on the Jazz are going to be out on this slate. This will cause them to be the mega-chalk value team of the night. On top of it, Hassan Whiteside, Rudy Gay, Jordan Clarkson, and Royce O’Neale are questionable. If all or most of them cannot play, the Jazz may have a hard time producing an eight-man team. As it stands now, all of the aforementioned questionable players and Trent Forrest are top options on this slate on DraftKings. This all applies to FanDuel, although O’Neale is not as good of a play.

It could be hard to trust the Raptors’ key pieces tonight as they may be likely to run away with this one. Still, it is usually not the best idea to assume a blowout. OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam are borderline playable, but I wouldn’t likely go anywhere else on DraftKings. Scottie Barnes and Anunoby are our best FanDuel options for the Raptors.

WAS (109.5) @ CHI (116)

This is a tough matchup for the Wizards, and only one player stands out for DFS, and that is Montrezl Harrell on DraftKings. He is questionable, so we will have to keep an eye on that one.

Chicago is mainly healthy, and the only decent play on DraftKings is Coby White in the absence of Alex Caruso. Nikola Vucevic, DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Lonzo Ball are all good players but not priced into contention here. FanDuel pricing on the Bulls is a little better, and Vucevic, DeRozan, and LaVine are closer to viable options.

DAL (108.75) @ HOU (106.75)

Luka Doncic is doubtful, and Kristaps Porzingis is out for Dallas. This makes Tim Hardaway Jr., Jalen Brunson, Dorian Finney-Smith, Maxi Kleber, and Dwight Powell top value options on DraftKings. Finney-Smith, Hardaway, and Brunson are the best FanDuel plays.

We have some excellent options on the other side of the game, with Eric Gordon, Kevin Porter Jr., Christian Wood, and Jae’Sean Tate standing out on DraftKings. Christian Wood is the best FanDuel play, but Kevin Porter Jr. and Eric Gordon can also be considered.

MIN (111) @ OKC (105.5)

Jarred Vanderbilt is the best value option for Minnesota on both sites. You can also consider Patrick Beverley on DraftKings. The big three of Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell, and Anthony Edwards are healthy, and all are viable. Still, they cut into each other’s usage, making none of the three standout options on either DFS site.

We’ve got a bit of value on the Thunder with Kenrich Williams, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, and Luguentz Dort looking like decent plays on DraftKings. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey have the most upside, but neither is priced well. As usual, Giddey is a better play on FanDuel, and I’d also look at Gilgeous-Alexander more there.

SAC (108.5) @ DEN (117)

Sacramento is mainly healthy and has a pretty balanced offense. Yet, DraftKings pricing is pretty soft on them as a whole. This makes Damian Jones, De’Aaron Fox, Harrison Barnes, Davion Mitchell, Buddy Hield, Tyrese Haliburton, and Marvin Bagley III decent options on this slate. I’d be careful not to roster too many top guys like Fox/Barnes/Haliburton/Hield. They are unlikely to all get there, but mixing and matching them is firmly in play. Barnes, Halliburton, Bagley, and Jones are the main plays to look at on FanDuel.

This is a good matchup for Denver hence the high team total. Nikola Jokic, Will Barton, Aaron Gordon, and Monte Morris are all great options on DraftKings. The pricing on Barton/Gordon/Morris is just too low on DK despite the Joker dominating usage for Denver. Barton, Morris, and Jokic are the FanDuel plays.

ATL (112) @ LAL (115.5)

Trae Young, John Collins, and Bogdan Bogdanovic are questionable for Atlanta. If one or more can’t take the court, we will have some decent value there. As it stands now, no one is a good play on Atlanta on either site. If you had to play someone, it would be Young or Clint Capela for pure upside.

Malik Monk and LeBron James are the guys you’d be looking at for the Lakers on DraftKings. One has to mention Russell Westbrook since we know he has upside. Still, his price has not come down enough, considering that he is not hitting his ceiling regularly for the Lakers. James and Monk are the best FanDuel plays, but Westbrook is more viable at a more appropriate (for his current production) $8,600.

CLE (111) @ POR (105)

Darius Garland is slated to return for Cleveland, which will cut into the value considering that other players are priced up from his extended absence. You could use Kevin Love, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, or Garland, but no one stands out on either DFS site.

Portland continues to be a source of great DFS plays with Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum out. Anfernee Simons, Robert Covington, Nassir Little, and Norman Powell are all in play on DraftKings. It is hard to rely on the minutes of Jusuf Nurkic, and he is not cheap, but you have to consider him as well with Lillard/McCollum off the court. The plays are similar on FanDuel, although Anfernee Simons is too expensive, and Nurkic is an excellent value at just $6,000.
