NBA DFS First Look For DraftKings And FanDuel – 1/5/2022

NBA DFS First Look For DraftKings And FanDuel - 1:5:2022

After yesterday’s five-game slate, we are back with a full slate of 11 NBA games on the docket. While health and safety protocols are still playing a huge role in the NBA and in NBA DFS, it seems like we may be back to some degree of normalcy. At least in terms of slate sizes/game cancellations. Since there’s a lot to cover, I’ll get right to it.

DET (109.5) @ CHA (119.5)

Targeting teams against Charlotte continues to be a solid strategy in NBA DFS. Today we get a Detroit team offering us a good bit of value on DraftKings with Trey Lyles, Josh Jackson, Killian Hayes, and Cade Cunningham. Saddiq Bey and Hamidou Diallo are priced up too much, with Cunningham back in the fold. Lyles and Cunningham are the only plays I’d really look at on FanDuel.

Miles Bridges, Gordon Hayward, and Terry Rozier are priced down enough to be viable on DraftKings. LaMelo Ball has upside but is too expensive with his counterparts healthy and cutting into his usage. No one on Charlotte looks good here on FanDuel.

HOU (110.75) @ WAS (118.25)

Christian Wood is severely underpriced for Houston at just $6,200 on DraftKings and is one of the top values of the day. It seems that there was a mistake in the pricing algorithm based on his benching and subsequent suspension. I’d also look at Eric Gordon and Jae’Sean Tate. Wood is a decent FanDuel option as well at $7,200.

The Wizards have the second-highest implied team total on the slate and are in a lovely spot. Raul Neto (probable), Kyle Kuzma, and Daniel Gafford are our top value options on DraftKings for Washington. Bradley Beal is expensive but offers a solid points-per-dollar rating still at $10,500. Gafford, Kuzma, and Beal are the FanDuel plays, while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope looks a bit better there as well (KCP is also playable on DraftKings).

PHI (110.25) @ ORL (101.25)

We’ve got a lot of decent DraftKings value on Philadelphia with Furkan Korkmaz, Isaiah Joe, Seth Curry, Georges Niang, and Danny Green all looking decent. Joel Embiid is expensive but still grades out well on a points-per-dollar basis. Tobias Harris is the odd-man-out here pricing-wise but always has some upside in a ceiling game. Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris are the only Sixers worth considering at their FanDuel prices.

This is not an excellent spot for Orlando, and they are getting healthy. Wendell Carter Jr. And Cole Anthony are questionable, and if one or both sit, some value opens up. Otherwise, I’d mostly stay away on DraftKings, although you could consider Carter Jr. or Gary Harris. On FanDuel, it is the same, although Carter Jr. is the only guy remotely in contention.

SAS (107.75) @ BOS (115.75)

Bryn Forbes and Devin Vassell are the only Spurs I’d look to on DraftKings. On FanDuel, it is Jakob Poeltl and Keldon Johnson. Dejounte Murray (probable) is likely back, which will cut into the upside of everyone else at their current pricing. You could consider Murray, but he doesn’t project well for his price on either DFS site. This isn’t an excellent spot for DFS outside of perhaps a fill-in savings piece.

Boston is mainly healthy and balanced and not a team we are looking to use much for DFS today. Al Horford on FanDuel is fringe playable. Other than that, I’d stay away. There are just so many better options on this large slate.

GSW (110.25) @ DAL (104.75)

Golden State is another balanced and healthy team. No one is a priority, but you could consider Draymond Green or Kevon Looney on DraftKings. That is about it outside of Steph Curry as a sub-optimal tournament play at his price that always has upside if he hits his ceiling.

This is a rough matchup for Dallas, and Maxi Kleber on DraftKings is the only decent DFS play. You can always consider Luka Doncic, but he does not grade out well at his price on either DFS site. I’d look elsewhere and move on.

BKN (116.75) @ IND (108.75)

For Brooklyn, it is just James Harden and Kevin Durant for the most part. Harden looks decent on DraftKings, while neither is an outstanding value on FanDuel. Kyrie Irving (probable) is expected back from his vaccination-related hiatus. This will cut into the usage of the two studs. You could consider Irving if he was getting minutes, but he is not likely to take on a full workload in his first game back.

With Indianapolis thin at the guard position, we have two of the top value plays of the day in Keifer Sykes and Duane Washington Jr. They should both be massively owned, and rightfully so. Domantas Sabonis is also grading out well today. This applies to DraftKings and FanDuel alike.

TOR (109.75) @ MIL (117.25)

There is nothing to like with Toronto essentially healthy on DraftKings on this slate. Hard pass. At their prices, Scottie Barnes, Gary Trent, and OG Anunoby are playable on FanDuel.

George Hill is the only DraftKings play for the Bucks worth considering outside Giannis. On FanDuel, Bobby Portis is an okay option, and other than that, it is just Giannis.

OKC (103.75) @ MIN (111.75)

For OKC, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Isaiah Roby, Kenrich Williams, and Darius Bazley can all be considered on DraftKings. It is very different on FanDuel, and Josh Giddey is the best option there. He seems to consistently be underpriced on FanDuel and overpriced on DraftKings.

D’Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns are questionable. The only value plays we have across sites for Minnesota are Jarred Vanderbilt and Patrick Beverley on DraftKings. Russell, KAT, and Anthony Edwards all have tournament upside but are not priced well with all healthy. If one or more miss, we’ll get more value all the way around.

UTA (113.5) @ DEN (109.5)

Many guys are questionable for Utah, and we’ll need to watch that one. At the moment, Mike Conley and Rudy Gay are the best DraftKings options, while almost the whole team qualifies as middling plays on the verge of value. Donovan Mitchell is a solid option on FanDuel.

Bones Hyland, Facundo Campazzo, Will Barton, and Austin Rivers are decent DraftKings plays for the Nuggets. Nikola Jokic would be the other guy to look at, but he isn’t a priority at his price on this slate. No one looks good on FanDuel. This is a tough matchup and not one to seek out if the prices are not amenable.

UPDATE: Monte Morris is now upgraded to questionable for Denver. If he suits up, it eats into the value plays listed above.

ATL (114.75) @ SAC (115.75)

This looks like a potentially great game for DFS with the high total and close spread. Trae Young and Cam Reddish are questionable for the Hawks, and we will have to keep a close eye on that. Danilo Gallinari, Onyeka Okongwu, Kevin Huerter, and Trae Young are all viable on DraftKings. Okongwu is the only real FanDuel value at just $3,800.

Basically, the entire Sacramento team outside of Tyrese Haliburton, Moe Harkless, and Tristan Thompson are under-priced for their projections on DraftKings. They are all playable, with Damian Jones, Buddy Hield, De’Aaron Fox, and Alex Len leading the charge. Harrison Barnes, Damian Jones, Marvin Bagley, and Buddy Hield are the best FanDuel plays.

MIA (108.75) @ POR (107.75)

Many players will be absent for Miami, including Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. This gives us lots of DraftKings and FanDuel value. Caleb Martin, PJ Tucker, Kyle Lowry, Tyler Herro, and Omer Yurtseven are the best options across DFS sites. This will be a significant team to glean value from in DFS tonight.

Portland is in a similar spot with key guys missing and tons of great plays. Nassir Little, Anfernee Simons, Robert Covington, Norman Powell, and Ben McLemore are our best choices on DraftKings. It is the same on FanDuel, although Covington is not as good of an option.
