This week it's easy to overlook these PGA Tour second division tournaments in favor of the big event, the Arnold Palmer Invitational. On the other hand, these alternative events offer a massive opportunity for both players and bettors. The Puerto Rico Open, which begins this week, provides the less fortunate a tremendous chance to win a PGA Tour event and, more crucially, full playing privileges until the end of 2023/24. Don't overlook the significance of that award! Another strong field has assembled at the Puerto Rico Open, with Rafa Cabrera Bello, Victor Perez, Kurt Kitayama, and Matthias Schwab contending for the title.

A weak Honda Classic is now followed by a solid Arnold Palmer Invitational, with an epic PLAYERS Championship to come. The Arnold Palmer hasn't always been able to attract the finest players globally, but with the sport's top-ranked player in attendance, we can't complain.

Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama, and World No. 1 Jon Rahm are among the notable names in the field for the 2022 Arnold Palmer Invitational. However, recent PGA Tour results have demonstrated that well-known golfers with great resumes aren't usually the ones who finish first. Four of the last five PGA Tour tournaments have been won by golfers who had never won on tour before. Scottie Scheffler, who won the W.M. Phoenix Open three weeks ago, is one of them. At PGA National, champions have a habit of getting out to a fast start and being near the top of the leaderboard by the halfway mark. As a result, if you're too far behind the leader on Friday evening, it doesn't appear to be an easy course to chase birdies on.

The Honda Classic has been a case of feast or famine for short price backers here since 2010. In six of the past 12 renewals, Matt Jones, Keith Mitchell, Padraig Harrington, Russell Henley, Michael Thompson, and Rory Sabbatini have won the Honda Classic at odds of 300/1, 400/1, 300/1, 300/1, 80/1, and 80/1, respectively. However, over the same period, Camilo Villegas (30/1), Rory McIlroy (9/1), Adam Scott (20/1), Rickie Fowler (18/1), Justin Thomas (12/1), and Sungjae Im (35/1) have all been winners.

This week, the PGA Tour travels from Pacific Palisades, California, to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, for the 50th edition of The Honda Classic, which takes place on the Champion Course at PGA National. The top of the OWGR, on the other hand, will not be in Florida this week, as none of the top-10 ranked players that competed in last week's Genesis Invitational will be in attendance for The Honda.

The Genesis Invitational wraps up the 2022 West Coast tour, bringing the year's strongest elite field to Los Angeles. Collin Morikawa, Patrick Cantlay, Viktor Hovland, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Hideki Matsuyama, and Cameron Smith are also in the field, led by world number one Jon Rahm.

The top 10 golfers in the world are teeing it up in Pacific Palisades this week. Last week's winner, Scottie Scheffler, has now ascended to #9 in the world due to his victory. Also worth noting is Thomas Pieters, who has been in fantastic form on the DPWT, finished second here in 2017, and won the NCAA Championship here as an amateur in 2012. It will be exciting to see the brilliant Belgian back among the big guys with his freshly regained confidence.

The Genesis Invitational is the PGA Tour's event in the Los Angeles region. The West Coast Swing, which passes through California and Arizona, is highlighted by this event. In 1926, the Genesis Invitational was renamed the Los Angeles Open and became a PGA Tour event. It wasn't held initially at Riviera Country Club, which took over as host in 1929. The Los Angeles Country Club was the first to have the event.

For this week's tournament in Arizona, it's back to the desert. TPC Scottsdale has been a part of the PGA Tour's schedule since 1987. The Stadium Course in Scottsdale is 1,500 feet above sea level and flanked by the harsh Sonoran Desert and the neighboring McDowell Mountain range. In the first round on Thursday, as many as 15 of the world's top 20 players will tee off, with the tournament taking place the same week as the NFL Super Bowl.

Driving distance, high-class ball-striking, and an aggressive Going for the Green percentage are essential player traits recognized here. Weiskopf's design, which contains relatively large and flat green complexes, is ideal for players who can strike the ball consistently well. The re-laid greens themselves are pretty tricky since they have a TifEagle Bermudagrass base with Poa Trivialis overseeding. Since 2010, all winners have been in the top 13 for Greens in Regulation, and I don't expect that to change in 2022.

The Waste Management Phoenix Open became a PGA Tour event in 1932, known as the Arizona Open. The event was not initially held at TPC Scottsdale, which took over as host in 1987. Like many other PGA Tour events, it began as a state open championship. The tournament has become the best-attended event on the PGA Tour calendar throughout its stay at TPC Scottsdale.

One of the oldest and most historic courses in golf history, Pebble Beach is an iconic championship venue. The beautiful beaches of Monterrey County, California is one of the best weekends of the year. While many have speculated that this weekend's Pebble Beach event is limited in star power, that could mean an exciting weekend with plenty of opportunities. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am takes place this week, with the tournament returning to its regular format of three courses and a pro-am component. Remember that the top 60 players are eliminated after three rounds, with ties advancing to the final round. In the meantime, expect six-hour rounds and some variance according to the luck of the draw.

Bing Crosby, the crooner, founded and hosted the Pro-Am. Bing provided $3,000 to the first tournament's prize pool, with Sam Snead taking home $700 as the winner. However, Bing's widow pulled his name from the event once AT&T became the main sponsor in 1986.
