The NFL Never Sleeps: The Professor's Take on NFL Draft Odds a Week Out

The NFL Never Sleeps: The Professor’s Take on NFL Draft Odds a Week Out

The Professor does not study college tape, so these bets are more about gathering the market consensus on players from various draft analysts and comparing that to the odds at the sportsbooks, as opposed to using my personal evaluations to make projections. With that framework in place, let's look at some of the key draft positions, and the selections that could create a betting edge. For details on The Professor's draft needs for each team, check out his AFC and NFC breakdowns.
Schectman Offseason: Early NFL Predictions of Doom

Schectman Offseason: Early NFL Predictions of Doom

We're not even at the draft yet, but free agency has already set the table for the 2022 season. Sure, there's pieces left to fall into place, but we already know where this is going. Like being 5 minutes into a Fast and Furious movie.

The NFL Never Sleeps: The Professor’s Take on AFC Draft Needs After Free Agency

The latest NFL shakeup on the AFC side came when Miami traded receiver DeVante Parker to New England after acquiring a surplus of receivers this offseason, a reminder that there could be more moves to come before the NFL draft, but with the free agency market down to older veterans who could wait until after the NFL Draft to sign with a team, rosters are about as set as they will get before the league's annual selection ceremony.

The NFL Never Sleeps: The Professor’s Take on NFC Draft Needs After Free Agency

The latest NFL shakeup on the NFC side came when Tampa Bay announced that head coach Bruce Arians will move into a front-office role and that defensive coordinator Todd Bowles will step into the top job, a reminder that there could be more moves to come before the NFL draft, but with the free agency market down to older veterans who could wait until after the NFL Draft to sign with a team, rosters are about as set as they will get before the league's annual selection ceremony.
Schectman Offseason: The Death of Sudden Death

Schectman Offseason: The Death of Sudden Death

Never a dull moment in the NFL. Except when the Jets play. This week the excitement is about a new tweak to the overtime rules that means both teams will get the ball at least once. But just in the playoffs, let's not get crazy. The owners love change almost as much as you love Daylight Savings Time.

Things got a little awkward when the Falcons jumped into the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes, huh? They didn't get him (because the Browns panicked and offered him a trillion dollars in gemstones and Dogecoin), but you can't go back to your wife after trying to run away with a hot cheerleader, who then ditches you at the airport.

The NFL Never Sleeps: The Professor’s Take on Future Odds Coming Out of St....

The Green Bay Packers aptly stole the day on St. Patrick's Day, shipping star receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders, who promptly signed Adams to a contract that makes him the NFL's highest-paid player as the first week of free agency draws to a close.

NFL Free Agency Fallout: Early Returns

The NFL is a wild, wild world! We got a taste, a preamble if you would, of the action to come last week with Aaron Rodgers returning to Green Bay, Russell Wilson heading to Denver, and Indianapolis dealing Carson Wentz to Washington. With the legal tampering officially underway, fantasy implications abound around the league. Let's dive in!

The NFL Never Sleeps: The Professor's Take on the NFL Landscape with Tom Brady Back in Tampa, Deshaun Watson on Move

The NFL Never Sleeps: The Professor’s Take on the NFL Landscape with Tom Brady...

Deshaun Watson has been in limbo for most of the past year, but the latest development in his off-field saga appears to clear the way for the Texans to trade the former face of their franchise. Of course, it is the 2022 NFL offseason, so the Watson news was not the biggest development of the weekend, as Tom Brady announced on Sunday that he will return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady's return dramatically shifts the landscape of the NFC South and the NFL as a whole; he may be approaching 45 on paper, but the David Sinclairs of the world will tell you that aging in reverse is a very real possibility, and Brady hasn't shown an on-field decline, so it seems reasonable to expect more brilliance in 2022. This article looks at the NFL landscape with Brady back, as well as Watson's trade prospects. Division odds are from DraftKings and FanDuel.
NFL Draft: Scouting Combine Winners (Offense)

NFL Draft: Scouting Combine Winners (Offense)

People around the league were aware of Skyy Moore, but I don't believe many believed he had the arsenal that he had on display in Indianapolis. Moore ran a 4.41 40 yard dash with a 34.5-inch vertical leap. Moore displayed explosiveness and was smooth as silk throughout the drills. Skyy Moore was thought to be a day two prospect that now finds himself firmly in the 2nd round conversation.
NFL Draft: Scouting Combine Losers

NFL Draft: Scouting Combine Losers

There is no other way to say it, but Kyren Williams bombed the Scouting Combine. Running a 4.65 40 yard dash and jumping just 116 inches on the broad jump is an unmitigated disaster. Kyren Williams was viewed as one of the best pass-catching backs entering the draft, but after this performance at the combine, it is fair to wonder how late he will be drafted.
NFL Free Agency Frenzy: The Calm Before The Storm

NFL Free Agency Frenzy: The Calm Before The Storm

The Aaron Rodgers melodrama played out once again. The yearly 'will he, won't he' spectacle played out with Rodgers teasing the possibility of retirement or requesting a trade to another team. Ultimately, the future Hall of Famer decided to return to the only team he's ever known and run it back. Aaron Rodgers will be a QB1 for fantasy football and is a rock-solid middle-round option.
The NFL Never Sleeps: The Professor's Take on the NFL Landscape with Aaron Rodgers Signed, Russell Wilson Traded

The NFL Never Sleeps: The Professor’s Take on the NFL Landscape with Aaron Rodgers...

Since the Packers drafted quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the question of whether quarterback Aaron Rodgers was done in Green Bay loomed over the franchise. For the past two seasons, fans of NFL teams with inadequate quarterback play could pin their hopes on the Packers eventually trading Rodgers, a move that would have boosted nearly any NFL team into Super Bowl contention.
Schectman Offseason: Should Green Bay Have Overpaid Aaron Rodgers?

Schectman Offseason: Should Green Bay Have Overpaid Aaron Rodgers?

But then Russell Wilson got traded to the Broncos (zoinks!), and the Packers gave Aaron Rodgers $200 million to stay in Green Bay. It actually helps their cap situation this year, but by year 4 of the deal it'll be Rodgers and a team of muppet wide receivers led by "Stone Hands" Sweetums.

Two Beerded Guys, Fast Nine Indianapolis Breweries for the Indy 500

We tried to send the Indiana-native Two Beerded Guys to the Indy 500 to cover the race, but something about probation conditions, restraining orders, and somebody trying to slap Helio Castroneves on his bum meant that wasn't possible. So we fell back on what the Two Beerded Guys do best -- drinking beer.

How To Increase Covid Vaccinations — Free Beer!

We reported a couple of weeks ago on Budweiser offering a coupon for a free Bud at a bar for the first 10,000 vaccine selfies submitted by fans. Last week, the state of New Jersey cooked up a deal with a couple of dozen bars in the state to offer a free drink to vaccine recipients with their proper QR code. And now a brewery in Buffalo is taking the matter intensely locally, and upping the ante, with a Shot and a Chaser to everybody receiving their first vaccine shot right there in the bar.

TPC Sawgrass may not always give the kind of scoring that has become so popular with viewers in recent weeks, but it does one thing better than the rest: it asks questions. As a result, the market is wide open, with three players contending for the top spot, including the defending champion. Nobody has ever won the championship two years in a row; however, it is a rare occurrence that won't last forever.

The Players Championship Odds Preview

This week, golf's best players compete for the PGA Tour's most coveted prize. The PLAYERS Championship will be held at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Florida, in 2022. As always, here's an early look at the 2022 PLAYERS Championship and a preview. TPC Sawgrass will host 48 of the world's top 50 golfers. However, there are a few conspicuous absences. Bryson DeChambeau is the most well-known of them. Bryson's wrist and hip problems from earlier this season are still bothering him.

This week it's easy to overlook these PGA Tour second division tournaments in favor of the big event, the Arnold Palmer Invitational. On the other hand, these alternative events offer a massive opportunity for both players and bettors. The Puerto Rico Open, which begins this week, provides the less fortunate a tremendous chance to win a PGA Tour event and, more crucially, full playing privileges until the end of 2023/24. Don't overlook the significance of that award! Another strong field has assembled at the Puerto Rico Open, with Rafa Cabrera Bello, Victor Perez, Kurt Kitayama, and Matthias Schwab contending for the title.

Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama, and World No. 1 Jon Rahm are among the notable names in the field for the 2022 Arnold Palmer Invitational. However, recent PGA Tour results have demonstrated that well-known golfers with great resumes aren't usually the ones who finish first. Four of the last five PGA Tour tournaments have been won by golfers who had never won on tour before. Scottie Scheffler, who won the W.M. Phoenix Open three weeks ago, is one of them. So what's the story behind this sudden flurry of activity? It isn't easy to attribute the parallels between the four winners to anything other than chance. It's also possible that it won't cease this week.

It was not initially affiliated with the great golfer, who took over the tournament in 1979 and relocated it to his Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando.

At PGA National, champions have a habit of getting out to a fast start and being near the top of the leaderboard by the halfway mark. After 36 holes, not one of its champions has been more than three strokes behind the leader, and none has finished outside the top ten. 12 of the 15 champions at PGA National have finished in the top five after 36 holes. As a result, if you're too far behind the leader on Friday evening, it doesn't appear to be an easy course to chase birdies on.

However, over the same period, Camilo Villegas (30/1), Rory McIlroy (9/1), Adam Scott (20/1), Rickie Fowler (18/1), Justin Thomas (12/1), and Sungjae Im (35/1) have all been winners.

Driving distance, high-class ball-striking, and an aggressive Going for the Green percentage are essential player traits recognized here. Weiskopf's design, which contains relatively large and flat green complexes, is ideal for players who can strike the ball consistently well. The re-laid greens themselves are pretty tricky since they have a TifEagle Bermudagrass base with Poa Trivialis overseeding. Since 2010, all winners have been in the top 13 for Greens in Regulation, and I don't expect that to change in 2022.
